Professor Carol Evans

Professor Carol Evans is a National Teaching Fellow, HEA Principal Fellow, and Non-Executive Board Member of the University of Bournemouth. She attained a Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence and Spotlight Award from Advance HE for her work in promoting team-based research-informed assessment design. Carol is a global leader in research-informed inclusive assessment practices and pedagogy.

She has held many senior leadership positions within higher education including Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) at Griffith University (Australia), Chair of Higher Education and Academic Lead of HEFi at the University of Birmingham, and Professor and Co-Director of Southampton’s Centre for Higher Education. Carol has worked at the universities of Exeter, UCL: IoE, Durham, and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery in London, and served as the inaugural UK Vice President of the International Federation of National Teaching Fellows (IFNTF).

She is currently a non-executive board member at the University of Bournemouth, an honorary visiting professor at Cardiff University and professorial fellow at the University of Southampton in addition to being editor-in-chief of Higher Education Pedagogies. Carol advises on national and international educational initiatives and has achievements of National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow, in addition to Collaborative and Spotlight Awards for Teaching Excellence (CATE) from Advance HE.

She has produced world-leading research in assessment and individual differences including two highly successful interdisciplinary research projects within and across universities funded by the UK Government's Office for Students. Her inclusive Assessment Framework (EAT) promoting equity, agency and transparency in assessment has been successfully applied within UK and international contexts (ErasmusEAT). Recent work focuses on disability inclusion resulting in the Disability Inclusion Institutional Framework (DIIF, and a report on what works in disability inclusion with TASO which is due out later this year.
