Richard started his audit career in the private sector and also has experience in the NHS. Having been with Uniac for almost 30 years, he has seen the development of HE internal audit over the decades – including the introduction of risk-based reviews (and linking them to strategic risk registers), increased expectations that internal audit covers more than finance and, more recently, the introduction of assurance mapping. He’s worked with HEFCE’s assurance team (and their mandatory requirements from internal audit) and is now working with institutions who, given the OfS’s difference regulatory stance, are exploring and re-considering their governance frameworks – and what they want from internal audit.
For a number of years until stepping down this summer, Richard was the chair of an audit committee at a small HEI and also has experience as a chair of finance committee at a large FE college.
