As part of our Connect Benefit Series on Student Success, we are seeking thought leaders and experts from across our global membership who are interested in shaping how we update and focus our Student Success Frameworks. The Frameworks explore key themes that impact student success: Employability, Access, Retention, Attainment and Progression, Flexible Learning, Internationalising Higher education, Assessment and Feedback, and Student Engagement through Partnership.

These themes cannot be viewed in isolation, either from each other or other institutional priorities and challenges such as digital practice, accessibility, authentic assessment, and sustainability that have gained pace over the last five years.

The aim of the summits is for members to discuss practical, evidence-based approaches to enhance the student's experience, providing links and connections to wider areas of student success while still considering the specific theme under consideration.

The summits will:

  • Gather key questions and challenges in this area
  • Crowdsource ideas and solutions to influence any future update to the student success framework series
  • Discuss ways to put into practice effective examples and methods and to consider each thematic area through wider lenses

Access, Retention, Attainment and Progression Summit

Dr Joan O' Mahony, Director of Academic Development at Bloomsbury Institute, will be facilitating this summit and acting as rapporteur for the event. With consideration to our upcoming commissioned literature review of practices and policies in Access, Retention, Attainment, and Progression this summit will offer an opportunity for experts to consider recommendations for the higher education sector across the whole student lifecycle and create a space to consider lessons learned in addition to positive impacts. This summit will identify how each focus area of access, retention, attainment, and progression are interwoven and can be further aligned to the Student Success Framework series before the forthcoming review and update.

All colleagues at Advance HE member institutions can attend this summit free of charge; please share this webpage with your colleagues. In order to accommodate as many colleagues as possible, the same summit will also take place at the following times:
