Previously, the UK sector had subject-level support in teaching and learning through ‘subject centres’; in fact, some still exist. And it would be fair to say that that in many cases, they are still missed. That said, our evidence shows that today subject-level challenges run deeper than teaching and learning – there are equality, diversity and inclusion issues, and leadership approaches that need to be looked at differently through a subject ‘lens’. This has got us thinking about visiting lessons from the past to inform the future; and, working with our members, we will now develop a model for subject communities to look at this more complex array of challenges.
With around 350 member institutions across the UK and the rest of the world, Advance HE is uniquely placed to support our members in this area. Our subject communities will be freely available to staff, as part of membership.
