Principal Fellow Record of Strategic Educational Impact Support Sessions

The Principal Fellowship Guidance for Record of Strategic Educational Impact support session provides participants with an opportunity to outline and discuss the evidence that they plan to include in an application for Principal Fellowship.

Purpose of the Principal Fellow Record of Strategic Educational Impact support sessions

These virtual one-to-one sessions are designed to provide support for colleagues who are starting the process of completing their Principal Fellow direct application (Descriptor 4 of the PSF 2023), and who need more guidance on the Record of Strategic Educational Impact (RSEI) element. The sessions will be of benefit in the following ways:

  • To act as a planning tool as you start to develop an application for Principal Fellow; we recommend that you focus on constructing the RSEI before you start to write the application

  • To focus on which of your key relevant areas of practice to include in each section of the application

  • To identify potential gaps in your evidence to date and to highlight areas for development; this may help you to focus on certain aspects of your work or to seek new opportunities to develop as you build the evidence required

This guidance document and associated Annotated RSEI Template, will support you to complete an annotated Record of Strategic Educational Impact prior to engaging in an online meeting (using the Zoom platform) with one of our experienced PSF Consultants. The Consultant will help you to decide which evidence to include in your application and how to balance this to make a convincing claim across all the sections of the application.

Creating your annotated Record of Strategic Educational Impact

RSEI consultancy will help potential Principal Fellows to understand how to create an annotated Record of Strategic Educational Impact.

This consultancy will cover how to describe and reflect within your RSEI, as well as how to present evidence of sustained success and how recent this should be.

The consultancy will show participants how their RSEI examples need to relate to authentic practice and how to provide a summary of the key areas of influence which have had impact on high quality teaching and learning

Participants will be encouraged to discuss their strengths together with potential improvements and opportunities for development.

Online meeting with the PSF Consultant

Participants and consultants will be able to book their meetings in line with a deadline for the completion of their Annotated RSEI template.

The advice between participants and consultants is personal and confidential. The consultancy is completely separate from the application process and solely provides support and advice. It cannot be used in any appeal process against the outcome of an application, and the consultant will not be involved in the review of applications whose development they have supported.

This is an hour-long session with an experienced PSF reviewer. This will be arranged at a mutually convenient time, approximately 5 weeks after the participant has been sent the annotated form. They will have 4 weeks to complete the annotated template (and be provided with guidance on how to complete this) and the meeting will be arranged for a week later.

Before you attend

Hopefully before booking this consultancy, you will have read the Advance HE Guidance documents for Principal Fellowship applicants. We also recommend that you use our free online Fellowship Category Tool (FCT). Answering the online questions should prompt your thinking about different aspects of your practice as you consider your entries in the Record of Strategic Educational Impact (RSEI).
