Assessment and Feedback Symposium 2025

A presenter-led event to learn, discuss and share latest practices and pedagogies in assessment and feedback.

Overview

Assessment and feedback are integral components of teaching practice, shaping the learning experiences and outcomes of students across disciplines. As the higher education landscape continues to evolve, it is critical that we adapt our assessment and feedback practices to meet the needs of diverse learners, design assessment and feedback for a digital world, and create authentic assessment tasks which prepare learners for the future.

This presenter-led virtual event will provide teaching and support staff from across the sector with a space to exchange and disseminate new and different ways of thinking about assessment and feedback.

This is a good event to attend as it allows you to really think about what you do, how you do it, and importantly, how it can be improved. It also allows you to speak with others in education about their approach as, by approaching issues collaboratively, everyone gets to benefit from the shared skills and knowledge''

Dr Miri Firth is Academic Lead for Flexible Assessment at the University of Manchester, where she has spearheaded institutional and national innovation in assessment design. Over the past three years, Miri has led a national project on Optionality in Assessment, led development of an award winning Assessment Toolkit, and recently co-authored a national framework for flexible assessment.

At the Advance HE Assessment and Feedback Symposium 2025, Miri will introduce the new national framework on Flexible Assessment, offering practical insights into its development and how it can be used to shape future-ready assessment strategies. Her session will challenge and inspire colleagues to reimagine what flexible assessment means in practice and how the sector can move from aspiration to meaningful, scalable change.
