Overview
Eleven higher education institutions from the Island of Ireland feature in the top 50 of the Times Higher Impact Rankings, a measure of the universities’ success in delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
In this symposium, we will share good practice through presentations, workshops and ignite sessions that can effect three key metrics underpinning these rankings.
Teaching: Core sustainability competencies prepare graduates for working in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex an Ambiguous world. Educators may need support to deliver on the SDGs to ensure that all graduates develop core sustainability competencies that they can take into their future careers. How are we providing this support to staff and students? Can this be done across an institution? A Faculty? Or on an individual Departmental basis?
Outreach: Cross-community projects can impact on sustainability, support student access from under-represented groups and develop the sustainability competencies of current students. How are we working with local, regional, national or international communities to impact on sustainability and student access and success?
Stewardship: The pandemic has wrought many changes on our ways of working and learning. Before these practices become embedded, we should consider the impact on all our staff and students. How do our ways of working impact on the well-being of the staff and students in our community? What is the impact on retention and attainment – of both staff and students?
