Sharon Green instigates programmes reaching thousands of employees each year, making certain that students are noticed without following a set academic pathway. She maximises the power of workforce voices at every step, especially for those from disadvantaged backgrounds by driving improvements across academic and professional services departments.

Being at the forefront of apprenticeships with the University of Lincoln gained Sharon national recognition as a civic educational leader and Professor of Vocational Education and Skills Development. Her exemplar structures equip students with the skills and behaviours to self-actualise and achieve their academic and career potential. Sharon is an Advance HE Principal Fellow in recognition of her sustained record of effective strategic leadership in apprenticeships practice and as a passionate advocate for inclusion, access and participation.

Her influence in apprenticeship processes is highly praised. She is passionate about raising aspirations to transform peoples’ lives; this power for people and their social mobility fuels her desire for change by creating cultures where everyone motivates and supports each other. As Director of Apprenticeships and Skills, she leads the strategic development, operational oversight and delivery of the university’s apprenticeship and skills portfolio.

This includes all aspects of the apprenticeship journey, from securing strategic business opportunities to safeguarding the university’s reputation and external profile, through the management, oversight and operation of internal quality processes and external reviews and stakeholder management. By shaping and developing policy and strategy at Lincoln and nationally across the higher education sector, she communicates her vision and redefines professional practice through civic educational leadership.

Sharon directs others in exploring how we can develop durable habits, values, knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to the workplace through transformational education. Her definition of second-chance education is not only making sure adults and young people can upskill vocationally and academically, but that we have a civic duty to provide opportunities to progress careers by raising aspirations, contributing to communities and fulfilling individual potential. She continues to drive the evolution of transferable systems and structures that enable teams to be effective across departments for the benefit of every student.
