Staff Wellbeing Change Impact Programme

A Change Impact Programme supporting organisations in the HE community to address and support staff wellbeing through collaboration and co-development of bespoke and practical interventions that address the institution’s needs.

Institutions are increasingly observing critical indicators suggesting significant challenges with staff wellbeing. Their internal data reveals troubling upward trends in staff sickness, absenteeism, and resignation rates. Reports from across higher education consistently highlight growing staff concerns about escalating workloads, primarily driven by reduced staffing levels and heightened expectations for student support.

These pressures are further intensified by financial constraints and widespread staff anxieties regarding potential structural changes that might threaten job security or lead to substantial role modifications.

Our Staff Wellbeing Change Impact Programme offers a proactive approach to addressing these challenges. By providing a structured method to understand institutional issues and develop targeted interventions. The programme aims to engage leadership and create meaningful, context-specific strategies for improving workplace conditions.

Structure of the programme

The programme integrates evidence-based interventions, institutional capacity building, and a shift towards a holistic mental health culture.

Assessing Institutional Mental Health and Wellbeing Needs

Incorporating surveys and focus groups, benchmarking against the NESET Report and international comparison, this part of the programme aims to understand the unique mental health challenges staff face in each institution and identify gaps in current wellbeing initiatives.

Leadership Engagement and Capacity Building

Through leadership workshops and providing international perspectives, this phase will equip institutional leadership with the skills and understanding to lead cultural and structural changes in support of staff wellbeing.

Co-Designing Wellbeing Interventions

Informed by evidence and using collaborative workshops and international case studies, this phase aims to develop targeted interventions co-created with staff to ensure relevance and sustainability.

Institutional Policy and Structural Change

By reviewing current policies and supporting the establishment of systems to monitor wellbeing, this phase aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of integrating wellbeing, ensuring policies reflect global standards and frameworks for wellbeing.

Evaluation and Continuous Improvement

Developing key performance indicators and annual reporting mechanisms, this phase aims to measure the impact of wellbeing initiatives and continuously refine approaches.
