The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning. Introduced in 2016, the scheme highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education. See the winning teams below.

CATE winners 2020 - Sheffield Hallam University

The Venture Matrix Team grew from a pilot in a single module to a university-wide initiative which has impacted the lives of over 15,000 students so far, contributes millions to the local economy and enhances learning, teaching, assessment and employability via pedagogy-based applied learning projects hosted by employers.

The Academic Enhancement and Attainment Team deliver a cross-university Academic Enhancement Model working to eliminate awarding gaps and improve student experience, collaborating with colleagues and students across the University. The team deploy co-design, arts practice-led appreciative enquiry approaches and decolonising expertise to all aspects of their enhancement work.

University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Class in a Bag Team (CIAB) demonstrates what can be achieved when academics and students collaborate as development partners. CIAB is a transformational dementia learning experience delivered by 2,400 student nurses to over 10,000 school children. It is an engaging and innovative way to build professional knowledge, skills and citizenship with student nurses.
