A comparative study of methodological approaches to reviewing literature: summary

This is a one page summary of a study carried out to undertake a comparative review of the methodologies used by eight literature review projects commissioned by the Higher Education Academy.

The study aimed to generate insights into the nature and characteristics of the methodologies used by the different review teams and the thinking behind these approaches; the ways in which project teams approached experienced and negotiated the different stages of the review process; and the potential learning for future review projects (commissioning and undertaking reviews).
