This case study has been developed as part of the Engineering Subject Centre Teaching Awards 2005-2006 from data gathered through a demonstration of the teaching and learning materials available interviews with the tutor and a student focus group.
In order to provide a focus for students within induction week the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Southampton introduced a group-based hands-on design build and test activity for all first year students. Prizes were awarded at the end of the week.
