Student authored vignettes: good enough to keep

A presentation from the STEM Annual Conference 2014.

Initially supported as an experimental HEA-funded teaching development project Student Authored Vignettes have proven to a highly successful format attracting international interest. The term vignette refers to interactive multimedia teaching packages derived from screencasts captures of student presentations. Final year MChem students produce blended learning resources to support themselves and their peers through the synoptic component of their final year examination. In the process they gain transferable skills and an insight into pedagogical principles. Actual vignette preparation is purely formative but achieves 100% engagement of the student cohort. We will summarise the approach and the lessons learnt in the first year that have allowed us to continue to facilitate vignette production without HEA financial support.
