Using a think-aloud protocol to evaluate an on-line resource for nursing students

Project report describing use of the think-aloud technique to evaluate student use of an online resource.

The objectives of the project were to:

  • Investigate the use of an on- line biological resource for student nurses ("Headstart in Biology") using an innovative methodology (the "think-aloud protocol")
  • Analyse the ways in which students navigate the resource and link this to their verbal comments about strategic decision-making.
  • Understand the ways and extent to which students develop their knowledge and
understanding of biological concepts via using the resource.
  • Provide wider insights into how healthcare students use on- line resources and the
ways in which future e-developments could be improved and made more accessible.
