Coaching for improvement: Moving towards a supportive teaching observation scheme within higher education - HEA Annual Conference 2017 - Generation TEF: Teaching in the spotlight

With the introduction of the Teaching Excellence Framework and the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s review of quality assessment the quality of teaching within higher education is under increasing scrutiny. This session explores whether and/or how a teaching observation scheme can facilitate teaching excellence. It reviews models of teaching observation and their potential impact on teacher learning and development. A case study is utilised to explore how embedding a coaching philosophy within a teaching observation scheme impacts on engagement.
