Use of digital audio to provide feedback for student coursework via the VLE : JISC audio mini-project case study

This is an Engineering Subject Centre/JISC mini-project case study. Results from the National Student Survey (NSS) routinely highlight student dissatisfaction with coursework feedback. Improving feedback to students is thus a priority for the School and opportunities to achieve this are regularly discussed and debated both at Learning and Teaching Board meetings and at regular School away days. It was therefore considered to be a timely opportunity to trial the use of audio feedback and to find out whether it could improve the student experience of feedback. We also wanted to find out if posting audio feedback clips on the VLE could improve traffic through and use of the VLE and whether providing audio feedback files to students would be more time efficient than providing them with lengthy handwritten comments.
