This report uses social work education as an exemplar for the social care and health professions. The author draws on her experience as a Head of a large and diverse Social Work School in the North of Scotland. She reflects on a tension in social work education between requirements for ensuring and improving retention and success and ensuring we fail students who are professionally incompetent or dangerous.
