Engaging music students in non-assessed activities

For many years university music departments have been characterised by the wealth of performance-related activity that takes place outside the curriculum and which forms a valuable part of students' education broadening their experience beyond the assessed requirements of their degree course.  This project aims to investigate whether increasing financial and time pressures on departments and students alike are a threat to such activity.  Through surveys focus groups and case studies the project will gauge current levels of provision and engagement exploring staff and student attitudes and proposing strategies and justifications for the continued support of this aspect
