Job Title
Associate Professor in Allergy
Dr Judith Holloway is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate Professor in the University of Southamptons Faculty of Medicine. She leads the world renowned MSc Allergy programme, which provides doctors, nurses and dietitians with the knowledge to improve the treatment of their patients, and the skills to cascade their learning to their colleagues, advancing allergy care across the globe. Her passion is to create education that is fit-for-purpose and makes a real difference to both her students practice and their patients' lives.
Impact of work
Dr Holloway has led MSc Allergy in Southampton for the last eight years and over this time has redesigned the course from the bottom up so that today, this postgraduate qualification has become a key training component for allergy healthcare professionals, providing both NHS and international healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality care to patients with allergic disease at every level of their healthcare systems. Judith is also a passionate leader, inspiring and supporting colleagues to enable them to deliver the best educational experience for students. She achieves this both within the Faculty in her role as Director of Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Programmes and across the University through her work teaching and mentoring on the PG Cert Academic Practice and UKPSF PREP Framework.
Plans for the future
Allergy is a major health problem around the world and so far Southampton has trained over 600 healthcare professionals from around the world with the skills to improve their allergy care. However there is still an unmet need and with the increasing issues of work pressures and international travel, Judith will look to create further opportunities for distance learning giving students choice to tailor their allergy learning to suit their needs. In addition, as Director of PGT Programmes, Judith is ideally placed to transfer her success and experience in designing and leading her allergy education programme to the development of existing and new clinical programmes within the University of Southampton, so helping academics empower students to improve healthcare provision around the world.
