The institution has introduced two new posts – Early Career Academic Fellows (ECAF) and VC2020. The ECAF role bridges the gap from Post‐Doctoral into academia, and guarantees progression upon meeting objectives. VC2020 roles have protected research and teaching allocations, providing  opportunities to build preferred career pathways into the professoriate. VC2020 roles have a research and teaching career pathway into senior academic roles, and the introduction of ECAF contracts support the diversification of the academic body overall and ultimately the representation of BAME academics into senior positions. These revised recruitment approaches have resulted in a diverse cohort. 44.6% of 130 VC2020 and 47% of ECAF roles are held by BAME academics (women respectively account for 49.2% and 48.7% of role  holders).
