Do student-produced videos encourage critical reflection amongst undergraduate computing students?

A paper from the 2013 STEM Annual Conference.

The HEA-funded Let Me Demonstrate (LMD) project involves the development of an internal student-driven video-based application which aims to encourage students to share the results of their learning with their peers in a safe and secure environment. In this paper we present the results of a related workshop session involving a cohort of undergraduate computing and product design students.

The aim of this session was to investigate the extent to which the medium of video can assist students to critically reflect on their learning achievements (in this case related to a programming course) and to build an awareness of the importance of transferable skills as well as subject-specific technical skills.
