Effective practice in independent learning

This research aims to identify effective practice in the design delivery and enhancement of independent learning activities.

A literature review is used to produce a working definition of what is meant by 'effective independent learning' and this becomes more nuanced acquiring greater conceptual utility as research progresses. The researchers compile a compendium of practice from across the UK HE sector. Differing institutional types and discipline areas are represented in eight case studies of institutions thus enabling a more in-depth look at independent learning activity.

The project has five intended outputs: a model of effective practice; a compendium of effective independent learning activity; a research report; a tool kit; and further dissemination in 2014-15.
