Expertise theory offers the possibility of improving current ways of handling employability for philosophy students without compromising the integrity of the discipline itself. This is because the theory can build upon and be integrated with some of the key skills and attributes that philosophy develops to produce ideas about employability that are both theoretically robust and simple enough to be practically implemented. Approaching employability through expertise accords well with how many humanities students think about their discipline and the skills it cultivates. The concern here is with philosophy: although this approach could be modified to suit a range of humanities subjects possible adaptations will not be discussed here.
