Feeding the Four Hundred

I wonder whether when teaching you have ever felt in need of a miracle? I did in 2009–2010 after taking on the largest lecture group in the School. Probability 1 is taken by almost all first year mathematicians plus a number of economists a cohort of around 400. Normally such a course enjoys excellent levels of staffing with weekly supervision classes of 10 students and one faculty member (this is perhaps one of the major attractions of the Manchester Mathematics degree). Probability 1 is an exception however whose smallest teaching groups are tutorials with 70 students.
