HEA STEM (Computing): An investigation into opportunities and employability in the discipline of Information Systems

In January 2013 the Higher Education Academy (HEA) commissioned a study of the health of the Information Systems discipline. This project was to investigate and build upon the report by Stowell and Probert and published in July 2012. The Higher Education Academy provided funding for this project and the research was carried between January and May 2013.

Project Aims:

The purpose of this project is to analyse and gain understanding of:

  1. First destination statistics for IS for the past 3 years
  2. Identify the number of IS programmes and those that have a sandwich year
  3. Look at relationship between new programmes and content in terms of 1) research based 2) industry informed modules
  4. Identify universities/colleges offering IS programmes and grade entry level over the last 5 years
  5. Identify which school/ departments/faculties that offer IS e.g. School of management business or computing?
  6. Identify the number of postgraduate IS programmes
