If we are not part of the solution we are part of the problem: Closing the achievement gap for BAME students on Media degrees and in Media careers - HEA Annual Conference 2017 - Generation TEF: Teaching in the spotlight

Fifteen years after Greg Dyke described the BBC as ‘hideously white’ the British media continues to be disproportionately dominated by White faces and White voices. The under-representation of BAME people in the media industries particularly in creative and decision making roles represents a cultural crisis. As media educators we have a responsibility to improve BAME recruitment to retention and achievement on and progression from media degrees. For many this will involve changes to our practice at institutional departmental and personal levels. This interactive session is designed to share experiences understanding and strategies in a discipline-specific context.
