Learning excellence

This new research brings together examples of learning excellence and teaching innovation from higher education institutions across the world. The 26 case studies presented here focus on practical innovations aimed at enhancing learning and educational outcomes for students across six themes:

  • approaches to assessing learning;
  • ensuring students are employable;
  • international students and learning styles across cultures;
  • recruiting new types of domestic student and the pedagogical developments required;
  • improving student retention and attainment;
  • engagement with the community and co-development of curricula.

The studies illustrate a dynamic picture of continuous improvement and transformational change as universities in all continents struggle with similar issues. They show that innovations and developments are being successfully implemented in teaching practices and in the ways that student learning and development are supported. Learning is being made more accessible for a diverse range of students and the student experience is being developed in ways that are more relevant to students’ lives and the world of work.
