What the project is?
The project has a focus on inclusivity, flexibility, widening access, equality and diversity, retention and social mobility.
In this work we aim to support the University Retention and Success Strategy developed through collaborative working. Newman University will implement in partnership with HEA and their student body effective practices for enhancing retention progression and achievement across all provisions.
They expect the initiative to deliver measureable impact on the retention and success of students from under-represented groups.
What the project hopes to achieve?
Newman wants to achieve both local enhancements in practice of the subject areas and strategic development at institutional level. They hope this combined approach will have a significant impact on the culture of the institution:
●Establishing strategic direction of travel
●Raising the profile of progression and achievement issues
●Encouraging more collaborative and partnership working
●Embedding effective practices in support of under-represented student groups
In turn Newman expect that these cultural changes will have meaningful impacts and outputs delivering measurable improvements in the retention progression and performance in students as a whole and under-represented groups in particular.
These improvements would see them out-performing their benchmark for retention and closing attainment gaps for under-represented student groups.
