Out of study experiences: The power of different learning environments to inspire student engagement - HEA Annual Conference 2017 - Generation TEF: Teaching in the spotlight

This session shares research on ways of drawing our culturally diverse millennial students into reflective analysis through ‘out-of-study’ experiences; taking participation out of the lecture room and library and into the street site and venue. Visits of differing scale and intellectual challenge made by 3D Design students at the University of Hertfordshire will be described together with tasks designed to increase engagement during and after the event. The aim is to provoke discussion amongst delegates to explore practical ways to expand students’ comfort zones increasing engagement and participation in students who may have limited experience of cultural and learning environments.
