small group teaching

Refers to teaching that occurs in small groups of typically fewer than 15 learners.

Small groups might take the form of tutorials seminars or webinars. However Mills and Alexander (2013) point out that the process and outcomes are better defining features than the number of learners:

"Small group teaching is not defined by numbers. We define it as any teaching situation in which dialogue and collaboration within the group are integral to learning." (Mills and Alexander 2013 p. 4)
