Student carers: Supporting their educational success - HEA Annual Conference 2017 - Generation TEF: Teaching in the spotlight

This session sets out the initial findings of a qualitative research project investigating the experiences of university students who have caring responsibilities for a family member or friend.  The presentation discusses the characteristics of student carers participating in the study their experiences of engaging in their university education while undertaking their caring role and their views about the support available or needed to promote their educational success particularly in relation to their retention attainment and progression.  The research methods used to obtain the data are also evaluated including the online survey and interviews which incorporated an optional photo elicitation technique.
