VERVE – An arts festival: Authentic learning through integrated projects - HEA Annual Conference 2017 - Generation TEF: Teaching in the spotlight

One challenge of higher education is to prepare students for employment. VERVE a full-day arts festival is a project that integrates ten modules in the Diploma in Arts Business Management. Students synthesis and apply what they learn to conceptualise and mount an arts festival for the public. This authentic learning experience requires students to manage the real world issues such as sourcing for artists negotiating with sponsors and engaging members of the public. This has been effective in enhancing students’ professional development and leadership skills by having them leverage on and develop their knowledge skills and competencies to produce a real public event.
