Sara Turkington

Job Title:
Equality and Inclusion Advisor, Ayrshire College

Sara is currently Equality and Inclusion Advisor at Ayrshire College.  She continues to grow in her knowledge and understanding of equality and inclusion but has always been a strong and passionate advocate for the rights and opportunities of all particularly championing LGBT+ visibility and inclusion.  In recognition of this, in 2019, Sara was nominated for the Robert Owen Award.  Previously, in 2016, she was awarded the Rising Star: Diversity award at the Herald Diversity Awards becoming the only FE practitioner to win an award at that event.  She is currently the co-Chair of the Trans Edu Community of Practice for colleges and universities and co-lead the development of the Ayrshire LGBT+ Education Network.  The latter remains the only Network of its kind in Ayrshire, if not Scotland, and it has received high praise from LGBT Youth Scotland, Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) and Pink Saltire.
