Aranee Manoharan

Aranee is an HE professional with experience across teaching, student success, educational development, EDI, and Board-level governance. She has contributed to governance at various levels of the university environment having served on the Faculty and University Research Degrees Committees, Senate (a.k.a Academic Council), and the University Board. A committed advocate of equity, inclusion, and social mobility, Aranee specialises in inclusive practice in curriculum and student journey design, postgraduate research (PGR) student support, early careers strategy development, leadership development, and governance.

Aranee is an HE professional with experience in both research-intensive and teaching-led universities as well as across teaching, student success, educational development, EDI, and Board-level governance - having served on a University Board for a 3-year term, during which time she also sat on the Finance, Academic Governance, and Infrastructure sub-committees. Whilst in this role, she worked with senior leaders to introduce an Executive Lead for EDI, who she supported to review the EDI governance framework and consolidate EDI action plans to ensure effective oversight and implementation. Before joining the Board, Aranee also sat on the Faculty and University Research Degrees Committees as well as Senate, contributing to discussion and decision-making in the areas of postgraduate research support and development, research communities and culture, and educational policies and procedures. 

Aranee has also been a non-exec. governor at the secondary level, providing insight into inclusive education and post-16 pathways and sitting on the Quality of Education sub-committee. She now serves as a Board Director at AGCAS, the UK’s professional body for higher education career services and professionals, where she oversees and leads the Social Mobility, Widening Participation, and Regional Inequality portfolio, contributing to policy discussions on these areas within the UK HE landscape. 

As Director of AM Coaching & Consulting, Aranee provides coaching, training, and consultancy in areas including PGR student success, inclusive curriculum design, inclusive leadership development, and inclusive early careers strategy development. Through AMCC, she is a Leadership, EDI, and Governance Associate with Advance HE, where she facilitates peer coaching through action learning sets on the Diversifying Leadership, Senior Women’s Leadership Development, and University of Cambridge Senior Leaders Programmes; has delivered EDI training for Boards as well as inclusive curriculum training for academics; and contributes to university governance reviews from an EDI-perspective.

A committed advocate for equity, inclusion, and social mobility, she is a Senior Fellow of the HEA for her work in inclusive curriculum design to support student and graduate outcomes. She also sits on the Institute for Student Employers (ISE) EDI Working Group and contributes as an adviser to the Royal Society of Biology’s Heads of Biosciences Network on the ethnicity awarding gap.
