Kieron Rees

Kieron Rees is Assistant Director for Universities Wales having joined the organisation in 2017. Kieron leads the organisation’s external affairs and policy activity, providing advice to Universities Wales’ governing committee of Vice Chancellors and developing and implementing strategies to effectively influence policy and decision making. Kieron has also previously had responsibility for the Global Wales programme and international policy.

In recent years, Kieron has overseen Universities Wales’ engagement with the Welsh Government’s Tertiary Education and Research (Wales) Bill, coordinated and advised Professor Graeme Reid in the strategic development, drafting and publication of the ‘Strength in Diversity’ report, developed the proposal to create the Wales Innovation Network, and acted as Universities Wales’ policy lead for the higher education response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Kieron has previously led the External Affairs teams at Carers Trust Wales and the National Union of Students in Wales, holding overall responsibility for those organisations’ policy, public affairs and campaigns work. 

In addition to these roles, Kieron has previously served on the governing body of a further education college in Wales and as Chair of Public Affairs Cymru.
