Ts. Dr. Jaya Kumar Karunagharan is an Assistant Professor in Biology and Psychology at the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM). He has been teaching in higher education for almost 20 years and is currently the Head of Foundation in Science in UNM. Jaya is also the Director of the Nottingham Recognition Scheme in UNM, which is an Advance HE accredited scheme to obtain Fellowship. In this capacity, Jaya has been working to help UNM realise its Education strategy to develop and grow education leaders at all academic levels. Jaya has been involved in mentoring colleagues in their submissions for Fellowship and in reviewing submissions from all three University of Nottingham campuses (UK, Malaysia and China). He has himself been a Senior Fellow with Advance HE since 2019 and is currently the Deputy Chair of the pioneering Senior Fellows Working Group that oversees the activities of the Malaysian Senior Fellows Network. Jaya’s research work has mainly revolved around teaching and learning especially intergroup processes that affect underrepresented groups in STEM and development of tools, such as augmented reality and lab simulations, to better educational outcomes.
