The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning. Introduced in 2016, the scheme highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education. See the winning teams below.

The UoG Media Festival week is a major cultural and educational event which hosts internationally-renowned industry practitioners at our media centre in Cheltenham. Guests come from all sectors of UK/international media, from companies such as BBC, Aardman, Sky, Universal, Dreamworks and Spotify.

The interdisciplinary team that has created and delivers science communication opportunities and pedagogy within undergraduate science curricula  at the University of East Anglia (UEA) has developed a Level 6 module in Science Communication and published their findings on the assessment of student skill development.

Our collaborative project (Graduate Research and Development - GRAD) brought together seven academic and student support teams from across the university to embed induction activities, study skills, academic literacies, employability attributes and peer led learning into a radically new curriculum for criminology. The aim was to provide a better learning experience for students as they made the transition into university life, building their confidence and encouraging engagement in the full range of developmental opportunities available.

We help to address oral health inequalities in areas of need, while our partners provide unique learning environments which take our students out of traditional learning environments and into unfamiliar situations.

The Studio Learning Project (SLP) is highly innovative curriculum project aimed at designing unique, industry-immersive undergraduate programmes in the creative industries. As with all Pearson College London degrees, students, industry and academics work in partnership to co-create the curriculum. Four different ' Studio Projects' were created to try out different approaches to structure and delivery of the knowledge and skills required in the creative industries, with a particular focus of the ' employability/professional' skillset often deemed to be lacking in graduates.

Newcastle university ageing generations CATE team

Gaining awareness of the needs of an expanding ageing population is important for university students from all academic backgrounds. Student interns and older people collaborate with faculty members to design, deliver and evaluate this module, which has now run annually since 2013.
Liverpool Hope University CATE team

Hope Challenge is our response to creating ambitious, resilient, adaptable and highly employable teachers who are retained in the profession.   We developed a highly innovative collaboration involving schools, OFSTED inspectors and Local Authorities whose central aim was to influence emerging practice of students through expansive learning and a community of practice that builds upon knowledge and context.

Pietro Spanu is a keen and innovative teacher and Professor of Molecular Plant Pathology at Imperial, Moira Sarsfield  is Senior Faculty Learning Technologist and Kate Ippolito is Senior Teaching Fellow in Educational Development. Together they work to translate educational strategy and theory into practical applications.

A team of 16 academics teaching on the BSc Biomedical Sciences programmes came together to eliminate the compartmentalised approach to learning experienced by students on modular programmes and to reduce the assessment load for staff and students.
Anglia Ruskin CATE team 2016

The Student Engagement Team has transformed approaches to employability and student engagement with its commitment to developing an ambitious framework of co-curricular engagement that facilitates students working as collaborators and partners. The team now delivers an innovative Intern Scheme built on three cornerstones (business mentor, ' soft-skill' professional training, and work experience).
