The institution recruited talented students from non-selective state schools from across the local area who demonstrated potential, but who may have not met the entrance requirements necessary to obtain a place on a standard medical degree programme. This alternative programme incorporates enhanced academic and pastoral support, with over 300 students now currently enrolled. A recent survey reported that 90% of the students on this programme were from a BAME background.
