Building Belonging: Online

Building and Enhancing Student Belonging: A Collaborative Online Change Impact Programme

We are delighted to introduce a fully online change impact programme, which focusses on how you can build belonging in your institution.

Belonging is a key part of the student experience, contributing to:

  • Student retention
  • Student attainment
  • Student wellbeing.

This change impact programme offers an opportunity for teams at school or programme levels to start to define the concepts of ‘belonging’ and ‘building’ both personally, collaboratively and with a local identity.

Interactive e-resource - a framework for student needs

The framework encompasses the concept of belonging and will enable institutions to deepen their understanding of how belonging interrelates with student needs and to evaluate their own service design.

Diagnostic survey (sent w/c 30 September 2024)

We will survey participants using a diagnostic tool aligned to relevant Student Success Frameworks, as a benchmark to identify key challenges and needs and identify existing good practice across participating institutions.

Introductory consultation (w/c 28 October 2024)

Our Project Lead will meet with the representatives who will be invited to reflect and report on concerns and needs in relation to their own context.

Launch event (November 2024)

This online opening event will be an opportunity for participants to collaborate with project leads from participating institutions to identify opportunities and goals, develop approaches and share practice.

A series of online discursive workshops (to take place January - March 2025)

These will be focused on the student needs framework, gap analysis, belonging and becoming, evaluation strategies, and the underpinning evidence base. These workshops will facilitate knowledge exchange and good practice sharing among institutions, all while benefiting from Advance HE’s expertise in bespoke consultative support and development.

This online closing event will be an opportunity for participants to come together, network and reflect on the programme and their learnings.
