Governance codes and EDI

The higher education codes of governance highlight the requirement for governing bodies to oversee EDI at their institutions.

The CUC Code of Governance

In 2014, the Committee of University Chairs (CUC) issued a revised HE Code of Governance for UK HEIs. One of the seven primary elements of the code requires the governing body to promote:

"Equality and diversity throughout the institution, including in relation to it's own operation."

Scottish code of good higher education governance

The Scottish Code of Good Higher Education Governance reasserts the obligations of the governing body in relation to E&D, including to:

"Ensure that it observes good practice in regard to equity and diversity."

"Ensure compliance with...appropriate legal obligations."
