Project Title: Generative AI assisted life-long teaching and learning through Higher Education (HE): a case study of coding learning for business students at Salford Business School
The project is: In progress
Project Summary:
In today's ever-changing business world, professionals must possess versatile skills that integrate essential business knowledge with digital expertise, including web development and coding for effective data analysis in business analytics. Concurrently, Generative AI is transforming student learning and higher education methods. Our project introduces a pioneering approach: Generative AI-assisted lifelong learning in higher education institutions in the UK.
It aims to help current business students efficiently acquire both business knowledge and coding skills.
Two case studies integrate Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) with ongoing modules: undergraduate website development and postgraduate Python business analytics at Salford Business School. These modules enable students to establish a strong coding foundation while fostering lifelong learning habits with Generative AI tools. Students learn business and coding fundamentals, followed by interactive coding sessions with Generative AI support for code generation and error troubleshooting. Assessments include reflective writing assignments, and feedback is gathered through workshops and seminars. In summary, our project responds to the demand for versatile skills in today's business landscape, leveraging Generative AI to enhance student learning and teaching methods in higher education.
Impact: Develop innovative teaching and learning practices in UK HEs assisted by Generative AI and design-related policy and guidelines.
Audience: Undergraduate/postgraduate students and academic tutors in Salford Business School.
