Project Summary:
DCC Help is a generative AI extension to the Debugging C Compiler. It transforms the role of the compiler by providing contextualised, on-demand assistance to novice programming students when they most need support. We believe this is the first integration of generative AI into the compiler. DCC has been used over 5 million times to generate error explanations for programming novices, and DCC Help has been used almost 70,000 times in 15 weeks.
Impact: To generate contextual, helpful programming guidance when a student most needs it.
Audience: Novice programmers
