Careers services: supporting international students

International students make up an increasing proportion of students in UK higher education institutions. Research undertaken by ECU

found that careers services are of particular interest to many international students, who often choose to study in the UK to enhance their employment opportunities.

This leaflet presents the key messages and recommendations of the research. It provides practical actions that can be taken by staff in careers services to enhance the international student experience, and provide an equal and inclusive service for all students.

It suggests practical ways to:

  • ensure the careers service can provide support tailored to the needs and expectations of international students
  • increase communication with students and collaboration with academic departments and other support services
  • improve connections and opportunities for international students outside the university campus

A further leaflet is available for disability services.
