Cathedrals Mission Group - Peer Learning Project 2017: Project Report

This project was set up to draw together the range of peer learning and mentoring schemes for students that operate within the Cathedrals Group of Universities.  The purpose was to examine good practice wherever it exists and to examine the commonalities and unique features across the group.

The report identifies the type of schemes being run the numbers of students involved in peer assisted learning and mentoring across the group and looks at best practice.  The project also created a toolkit to support the development and enhancement of new and existing schemes and identified 8 key issues of concern with 27 themes and 88 sub themes.

The report also identifies challenges in common

  • Establishing links between schemes and strategic priorities
  • Clarifying drivers for scheme initiation and purpose
  • Achieving collaboration between professional services and academic teams
  • Absence of a community of practice

Finally the report makes four recommendations

  • Develop a community of practice
  • Support professional development for scheme leaders
  • Build a shared set of resources supporting practice in peer learning and mentoring
  • Explore the feasibility of a Cathedrals Group-wide evaluation project

Practice Directory

The practice directory provides an overview of the schemes and/or programmes that are in operation across the Cathedrals Group together with contact details of those who took part in the project.

Project Case Studies

These are the full case studies submitted for the Cathedrals project; they vary in scheme type and scope and provide a rich picture of practice across the Cathedrals group. You can find links to each of them here.

Peer Learning and Mentoring Scheme Toolkit

This toolkit was developed to support the development and enhancement of new and existing schemes and identified 8 key issues of concern with 27 themes and 88 sub themes.  The toolkit is designed to support colleagues looking to develop a scheme from the beginning or to evaluate their own scheme to see how it could be improved/enhanced/updated.
