Cultural Environments and Interdisciplinary ESD

This presentation was delivered at the Interdisciplinary Sustainability Education: Insights Momentum and Futures event held at the Higher Education Academy in York on 14th December 2011. The event shared findings from eight inter-disciplinary Education for sustainable development projects funded in 2010 by the HE Academy.

Jane Downes and Ingrid Mainland of Orkney College University of the Highlands and Islands and Richard Oram and Ian Simpson of the University of Sterling gave this presentation about a HEA funded interdisciplinary sustainability education project (ESD). The project focuses on the Scottish higher education sector and calls for a review of demand at both undergraduate and postgraduate level for the development of interdisciplinary ESD in Archaeology Environmental Science Geography Anthropology and History and also the identification of mechanisms by which ESD may be embedded in those subject communities including potential curricula and mechanisms for delivery.
