Degree attainment ethnicity and gender: A quantitative analysis

This report is part of an investigation by the Higher Education Academy and the Equality Challenge Unit into issues relating to differences in degree attainment between students of different ethnic backgrounds and between males and females.

Using statistical modelling this report examines the circumstances of degree attainment through the further analysis of relevant quantitative data.

The analyses focused on two existing datasets. Firstly degree attainment itself using the 2004-05 Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) student record data. Secondly it investigates undergraduate students' perceptions of their experience of feedback and assessment using data from the feedback and assessment scale of the 2006 National Student Survey (NSS).
