Developing Inter-Professional Communities of Practice within the context of a Professional Doctorate Programme

The concept of the "Professional" Doctorate offers opportunities for the development of work-based skills which transcend professional boundaries. This paper discusses attempts at using a Doctoral framework to develop a community of practice of individuals from multiple professions. We reflect upon our experiences of a cross-University Doctoral programme which draws from several professions and make recommendations as to how Professional Doctorate programmes might be structured to best support inter-professional working.
