Embedding equality and diversity in the curriculum: Developing a train the trainers model

As part of the HEA Scotland embedding equality and diversity in the curriculum (EEDC) strategic enhancement project Edinburgh Napier University developed a train the trainers model of staff development based on the US SEED (seeking educational equity and diversity) programme. Following a baseline analysis the project team designed a programme of “reflective conversations” that aimed to raise awareness through honest and constructive dialogue. In so doing they aimed to develop the capacity of delegates within EEDC itself and prepare them to act as mentors and facilitators for future instantiations of the programme (adopting a cascade approach to sustainable development). In addition to achieving this aim the programme also created a wider community of practice around EEDC within the institution and engaged with key influencers who will be pivotal in the scaling up of the project’s work post-SEP.

Further information about Napier’s work can be found in the below video (the slides for which are also downloadable on the right) and their accompanying case study.
