Exploring and Implementing Theories of the Experiential Learning Cycle in the Teaching of Transport Planning

Is it possible to teach students who have no previous knowledge or analytical background the basic skills of transport appraisal?

This case study inspired by theories of the experiential learning cycle proves that it may be possible and even very successful. The case study focuses on some learning and teaching methodologies introduced to the module 'Transport Economics and Appraisal' at the Transport Planning MSc Programme at the University of the West of England Bristol. The described approach may be relevant to a wide range of courses in the built environment where analytical skills are required by employers but not necessarily developed and practised in class.
