A presentation from the TIS International Conference - Internationalisation of Pedagogy and Curriculum in Higher Education: Exploring New Frontiers June 2011.
This presentation explores the relationship between university curriculum and the social and cultural practices of the world beyond the university and asks what sorts of curricula might be appropriate for an increasingly complex technological world where we are more strongly connected with our global neighbours. In a technologically enhanced world individuals may belong to multiple life worlds made accessible to them by electronic communication and the internet. The increase in the variety and range of these groups means a much more salient and active interface with other social linguistic and cultural groups. This increased immediacy of diversity and interconnectedness with global neighbours may demand new sorts of literacy and wider sets of competences.
